Preface

Welcome to the second issue of Jewish Fiction .net! It is a special joy to be publishing this issue on Kaf-tet B’November, the date in 1947 when the United Nations voted to partition Palestine, thus enabling the creation of the State of Israel. In honour of this landmark event in Jewish history, more than half of the fiction in this issue is either about Israelis or written by Israelis (some native-born, writing in Hebrew; others olim who write in English). We also have in this issue some wonderful stories from Britain, Poland, Canada, and the United States.

Two days from now we will begin celebrating Chanukah. Along with your latkes/levivot or sufganiot, please consider savouring one of our stories on each of the eight nights – one (literature-loving) way to commemorate, and rejoice in, the light and the miracles of our people, history and culture. Chag urim sameach!
